Austria Visit Visa Requirements

The German-speaking country of Austria has an area of 83,871km2 in the old continent of Europe. It is one of the richest countries in the world by per capita GDP terms, and amongst the most powerful economies in the European Union.

Category of visa

This post covers the basic Requirements needed to process

  • Tourist Visa – Issued for a stay of 30 days, single or double entry.
  • Business Visa – Can be issued for 90 days and be single or double entry or it may be issued for one year with multiple entries (total period of stay is 90 days within each period of 180 days).

Visa Requirements

This section contains a list of all requirements needed to successfully process a Austria visa application:

  • Austrian application form

  • Two identical photos. The photos should be of passport format – a recent whole-face capture with a light background

  • Your passport/Travel document:

    • Valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned date of departure from Austria (the Schengen zone).

    • No older than 10 years.

    • And it should contain at least two blank pages.

  • Copies of your previous Schengen visas (if applicable).

  • A cover letter. In which you state the purpose of your visit to Austria and you present a detailed trip itinerary.

  • Round-trip Flight Itinerary. Containing the dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from Austria.

  • Proof of accommodation. I.e. Hotel reservation for the whole duration of the intended stay in Austria.

  • Proof of civil status. This could be a marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, death certificate of spouse, etc.

  • Proof of sufficient financial means for the period of stay in Austria.

Austrian Visa Requirements Based on Your Employment Status

Additionally, you will need to provide the Austrian embassy/consulate with documents that prove you meet Austria visa requirements based on your employment status:

If employed:

  • Employment contract.

  • Current bank statement of the latest 6 months.

  • Leave permission from the employer.

  • Income Tax Return (ITR) form or Certificate of Income Tax deducted at the source of salary.

If self-employed:

  • A copy of your business license.

  • Company bank statement of the last 6 months.

  • Income Tax Return (ITR).

If a student:

If retired:

  • Pension statement of the last 6 months.

If applicable:

  • Proof of regular income generated by a property, for the last 6 months.

Austrian Visa Requirements for Minors

Additional Austria visa requirements for minors wishing to visit Austria for short-stays are as follows:

  • Birth certificate of the minor traveling to Austria.

  • Austria application form signed by both parents.

  • Family court order – in cases where only one parent has full custody of the child.

  • Certified copies of ID/passport of both parents.

  • A notarized parental authorization to travel to Austria, signed by both parents/guardians if the minor will be traveling alone.

Sponsor evidence: this might include your sponsor’s passport and residency or an invitation letter, for further information please check the User guide for supporting documentation

Family evidence: this might include birth and marriage certificates, for further information please check the User guide for supporting documentation

Accommodation: temporary or permanent this might include a rental or house, mortgage statement or house deed, for further information please check the User guide for supporting documentation

Travel and residency documents: we always recommend that you do not book and pay for travel and accommodation until the outcome of your visa is known

Other evidence: Any other valuable information.

  • Schengen visa (age 12 years and above) – EUR 80
  • Children, ages 6–11 (unless otherwise stated in the Visa Facilitation Agreement) – EUR 40

Processing time

The processing time for a Russian visa can take 3 to 20 days, depending on the urgency of your application.


When your Russian visa has been approved, you will need to collect it at the Russian Embassy in Abuja. You will be contacted telephonically and via email to let you know that your visa is ready for collection.
